Odessa freestyle wrestler Magomed Zakariev won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Oslo, Norway. For him, this is the first award of this rank.
In the category "up to 97 kg" 24-year-old Magomed Zakariev (coaches - Konstantin Stankov, Anzor Maltsov) in a duel for 3rd place, won over the silver medalist of the European Games 2019 Alexander Gushtin from Belarus - 9:3. This herd award is the first for the national team of Ukraine at the 2021 World Wrestling Championship.
In the 1/8 finals, Magomed defeated the representative of Costa Rica Maxwell Lacey Garita (10:3), in the 1/4 finals - the vice-champion of Europe-2021 Suleiman Karadeniz from Turkey (6:3) and only in the semifinals he was stopped by the two-time Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev from Russia, which eventually became the winner of this World Cup.
For Ukraine - the seventh bronze in the history of the weight category up to 97 kg at the world championships.
In the spring of this year, Magomed Zakariev, thanks to his successful performance at the Ukrainian Championship, where he became the first, and the Kyiv International Tournament, where he won a bronze medal the right to compete in the European Olympic qualifiers. Unfortunately, in Budapest, he lost in the first round to Ahmed Batayev from Bulgaria.
