Hackers compromised the cybersecurity of the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar through the account of one of the employees. The company's president, Olexander Komarov, announced this during a telethon.
"We need to acknowledge that this attack breached our defense. This happened because the account pool was compromised, the account of one of the employees was compromised, and the enemy managed to get inside the company's infrastructure. An investigation is underway," he said.
The president stated that the issue is that in any organization, there may be individuals who "conditionally point Russian rockets or give away their passwords."
According to him, the company has repelled about 500 cyberattacks since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
"Look, I think the Kyivstar example shows that even the most protected infrastructure can be affected. It's real. We use state-of-the-art technologies from global suppliers to keep the company's perimeter closed from cyber threats," he said.
The attack was carried out by the Russian hacker group "Solntepyok," which, according to the SSU, is close to the Russian GRU.
"They did it to put the largest telecom infrastructure in the country, to sow trouble, emotionally affect Ukrainians... The war is ongoing - this is one of the ways of war against Ukraine," emphasized the president of Kyivstar.
