Technically, Poland is capable of closing the sky over the western regions of Ukraine, as it has long-range air defense systems like the Patriot. However, this would require political will.
During the United News telethon, spokesperson for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ilya Yevlash, mentioned,
"There have been discussions about Poland potentially closing the airspace in our western regions, which would allow us to use the stations and launchers located in Western Ukraine on other fronts. Theoretically and technically, this could be possible, as Poland possesses long-range air defense systems, including Patriot systems. However, it requires political will, and this is more a matter for our diplomatic corps and senior military leadership who can agree on it."
According to Yevlash, such a decision would "make life easier" for the Ukrainian Air Force.
"We could use the scarce facilities to combat tactical aviation, guided missiles, and cruise missiles. Of course, this would be very helpful for us," he explained.
