The Netherlands remains committed within the EU framework to increasing economic pressure on Russia through additional sanctions and measures to prevent their circumvention, said Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp during his visit to Kyiv.
"We are starting to see cracks in the Russian economy, and we need to expand these cracks by increasing sanctions efforts and ensuring compliance. We are working on a package of 16 sanctions," he informed during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on Thursday.
Veldkamp also reminded that on January 15, the Netherlands organized a conference in The Hague on ensuring compliance with sanctions against Russia.
For his part, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha emphasized that sanctions against Russia are working and called for further strengthening of the sanction policy.
"We also see signs of 'some turbulence' in the Russian economy, despite the boastful statements that the Russian economy has handled it. No, that’s not true. It is very important that, together with our European and American colleagues, we raise the cost of aggression for Russia and make the manifestations of problems in the Russian economy a trending issue," Sybiha emphasized.
On July 7, 2024, newly appointed Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp made his first foreign visit in his diplomatic role to assure Ukraine of full support following the change of the Dutch government.
