Russian forces have increased the number of Kalibr missiles on their submarines from four to six.

This was reported on TV marathon by the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk.

“As for the maritime area, there haven’t really been any changes. They haven’t deployed additional vessels, although there has been a dispersal of naval forces in Novorossiysk. Most likely, they were anticipating some sort of trouble—but that’s just an assumption. The fact remains that they dispersed. Currently, there is one missile carrier in the sea—a submarine. As you can see, the statistics now look a bit different. Previously, a submarine carried up to four Kalibr missiles; now, it carries six,” Pletenchuk said.

According to the spokesperson, the Russian forces have taken this step to boost the strike capabilities of their launch platforms.

“The main type of vessels the occupiers are currently using are submarines, because they are safer for them. Considering that most of their carriers at sea are submarines—let me remind you, they have three in the Black Sea Fleet, all of them Project 636, except for one more submarine, Alrosa, which isn’t a missile carrier. It performs more of a patrol function. But when they do have missile carriers at sea, they’re usually submarines. So, most likely, this is how they decided to enhance their combat capabilities—to have more strike potential,” Pletenchuk explained.
