Estonia plans to complete the construction of barriers along its border with Russia by the end of 2025. The work is being expedited due to the threat of an influx of illegal migrants. This information comes from the head of the migration policy department of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, Janek Magi, as reported by RAR.
Simultaneously, Magi notes that with sufficient funding, all fortifications on the border with Russia could be completed by 2027. According to Magi, systems of observation are being installed concurrently with the construction of 15 monitoring stations along the Narva River. An additional 55 million euros are needed for the equipment of border fortifications.
"The border will be 100% under technical surveillance. We will be able to see objects flying low, including drones," emphasized the head of Estonia's migration policy department.
He added that the construction of the fence and infrastructure upgrades were expedited due to the threat posed by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's regime, which has previously used migrants to exert pressure on neighboring countries.
