European Council President António Costa has confirmed that he will visit Kyiv on February 24 alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In a post on X, Costa stated:
"Monday, February 24, marks the third anniversary of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. I have decided to be in Kyiv for that occasion, with Ursula von der Leyen, to reaffirm our support to the heroic Ukrainian people and to the democratically elected president Volodymyr Zelensky"
Costa also expressed gratitude to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay for rescheduling the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize ceremony, which was initially set for the same date.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has also announced his intention to visit Kyiv on February 24.
Ukraine is preparing to host a meeting of partner country leaders in Kyiv on the same day to discuss peace, security guarantees, and the future of collective security.
