Farmers in Odessa region were the first in Ukraine to begin the harvest, including the start of harvesting winter barley and peas, said Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper.
“The first harvest results indicate good yields. This allows us to assess this year’s harvesting campaign with optimism,” Kiper noted.
According to him, this year farmers in Odessa region are expected to harvest grain and leguminous crops from nearly 770,000 hectares. The largest share of planted areas traditionally belongs to winter and spring wheat — over 522,000 hectares. Barley covers nearly 176,000 hectares, peas about 74,400 hectares, and rapeseed another 175,000+ hectares.
As reported, this year in Ukraine a total of about 11.3 million hectares were sown with winter, spring grain and leguminous crops, while total plantings including oilseeds amounted to over 20 million hectares.
