Finland has officially joined the international maritime coalition aimed at strengthening the development of the Ukrainian Navy.
The decision to join was made by Finland’s Minister of Defense, Antti Häkkänen. Currently, the coalition, led by the United Kingdom and Norway, includes 17 countries.
“Finland has joined the capability coalitions based on careful case-by-case consideration, always ensuring that our contribution is sufficient and effective, providing clear added value to building Ukraine’s military capabilities,” Minister Häkkänen said.
Special attention is also being given to developing Ukraine’s marine infantry and supplying river patrol vessels to protect coastal and inland waterways.
Previously, Finland has already joined artillery, armor, mine-clearing, and information technology coalitions. The purpose of these international capability coalitions is to provide long-term support to Ukraine. Within the coalitions, the development of Ukraine’s future military capabilities is planned and guided together with Ukrainian partners.
