The preparation of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel, both in Ukraine and abroad, as well as the ways to implement new operational experience and formats of cooperation with German partners, were discussed in a meeting between Lieutenant General Hennadiy Shapovalov, Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, and Major General Dr. Christian Fröding, Head of the Ukraine Crisis Center at Germany’s Federal Ministry of Defense.

“Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Lieutenant General Hennadiy Shapovalov, met with Major General Dr. Christian Fröding, Head of the ‘Ukraine’ Crisis Center at the Federal Ministry of Defense of Germany. The sides discussed the training of Ukrainian servicemen both in Ukraine and abroad,” the Ground Forces of Ukraine reported on Facebook on Tuesday.

The discussion focused on the importance of timely integration of new practical experience into training programs. General Shapovalov shared insights on the challenges, advantages, and shortcomings of preparing personnel within Ukraine and through international partnerships. Fröding, for his part, emphasized the importance of learning from the Ukrainian experience.

“German colleagues were offered various formats of cooperation through which Ukrainian servicemen will be able to share effective solutions for conducting modern warfare,” the Ground Forces noted.

The two sides also addressed the transition of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to a corps-based structure, highlighting the benefits of the new system as well as the challenges involved in preparing the command staff of these military formations. Additionally, the meeting touched on contemporary combat operations, including evolving tactics with the introduction of drones, the role of artillery and tanks, and the operational procedures for mechanized units.

At the conclusion of the talks, Major General Fröding assured continued support for Ukraine from Germany, while the Ukrainian delegation reaffirmed its willingness to share operational experience with German partners.
