Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that, given the growth of Russia's armed forces, there remains a theoretical possibility that the country could attempt to attack NATO countries in 2029-2030, reports Delfi.
According to him, this is why it is particularly important to ensure defense capabilities until that time.
"Military experts are closely monitoring events in Russia. There, the military industry is rapidly developing, with many tanks and airplanes being produced, which means that Russia's armed forces are significantly increasing. By 2026, their numbers are likely to rise to 1.5 million soldiers," Pistorius told journalists during his visit to Vilnius on Wednesday.
"Experts believe that Putin might reorganize his armed forces in 2029-2030 to create the necessary conditions for a possible theoretical attack on other countries, including NATO countries. Therefore, until that time, we must ensure our defense capabilities. This task, of course, requires both time and money, but we are working toward this goal," he emphasized.
German intelligence data presented at the end of last year indicated that the Russian army could attack NATO countries by 2030.
