A bill has been introduced to the Bulgarian Parliament that proposes freezing Russian assets.

This information is reported by Novinite.

It is claimed that the bill, developed against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, aims to ensure Bulgaria's compliance with international restrictive measures.

The bill includes freezing Russian property owned by individuals under sanctions, including the return of the "Kamchiya" sanatorium-rehabilitation complex to the ownership of the country.

The law proposal is put forward by deputies Ivaylo Mirchev and Nadezhda Yordanova, representing the political party "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB).

They mentioned that they hope for support from other parliamentary formations.

The United States has proposed to the "Group of Seven" (G7) countries to confiscate $300 billion of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. They aim to finalize this plan by the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On January 11, it became known that the White House supported legislation allowing the confiscation of approximately $300 billion from frozen Russian assets and redirecting these funds to the reconstruction of Ukraine.

The EU's Chief of Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, stated that EU ambassadors will approve the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine on Wednesday, January 24.
