Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police quickly detained a Russian agent who carried out a terrorist attack against Kharkiv defenders on June 20 this year.
On that day, Russian special services activated an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden in the trunk of a scooter near two military personnel.
The explosion occurred near a café in Kharkiv, where the Russian agent lured the soldiers under the guise of handing over a "volunteer" scooter.
According to the investigation, the Russian forces recruited a 19-year-old Kharkiv resident through job search Telegram channels.
After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from a handler on how to make the IED at home. She then bought household chemicals, a battery, wires, and two phones for remote detonation.
The ready-made bomb was brought to the scooter parking location and hidden in its trunk.
Using a camera disguised at the planned attack site, Russian special services tracked the arrival of the soldiers.
After committing the crime, the terrorist tried to go into hiding but was arrested by law enforcement within a few hours after the explosion.
During a search, unused explosive components and a phone with evidence of working for the Russian state were seized.
SSU investigators have charged the detainee under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act resulting in death).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
