The European Union has already raised two-thirds of the funds for the initiative to allocate 5 billion euros to Ukraine for 2 million ammunition rounds.
This was stated by EU foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, ahead of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
"We need to support Ukraine more, and I’m happy to see that we already have two-thirds of my initiative for ammunition," said Kallas.
The head of European diplomacy noted that the EU had raised two-thirds of the 5 billion euros for 2 million ammunition rounds for Ukraine, but the block must do more. She also mentioned that in 2025, European countries allocated 23 billion euros in support of Ukraine, which is already more than last year.
Kallas was also asked about the appropriate response to the statement of future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz regarding the willingness to send long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The EU foreign policy chief replied that each EU member state gives what it can.
"But I think the message is very clear. We need to do more so Ukraine can defend itself and civilians don’t die," she added.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs also announced the discussion of the consequences of Germany’s decision and expressed the opinion that "now we need to exert pressure, maximum pressure on Russia to truly end this war."
"For peace, both sides are needed. For war, only one side is needed. And we can see that Russia truly wants war. And all those who want the killing to stop should put maximum pressure on Russia," Kallas said.
