"An adequate response to the Russian threat would be the rotation of air defense systems in the Black and Baltic Sea regions", said Gabrielius Landsbergis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, as reported by LRT.
In June of last year, NATO allies agreed to create such a model, but it has not been implemented yet. The Baltic countries are currently in negotiations with countries that could deploy air defense systems in the region.
"The rotation of air defense, which could be implemented in both the Black Sea and Baltic regions, would, in my view, be an adequate response to the ongoing Russian escalation," said the head of Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In December of last year, when Russia used drones to attack Ukraine's port infrastructure, one of them crashed in Romanian territory.
A similar incident occurred in the country in September of last year. At the end of December, a Russian missile also entered Polish airspace.
"Escalation is already happening, and these actions, the falling of drones, no matter how unintentional they may seem, are escalation. They wouldn't happen if Russia were not waging war against Ukraine," said Landsbergis.
