The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has received official confirmation from the Executive Academic Board of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) regarding the decision to include nine higher military educational institutions and military training units of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence into the European educational network.
As reported by the Ministry, in January this year, seven Ukrainian military higher education institutions submitted a joint application to join the ESDC, and later two more institutions joined the initiative.
This step is an important element in integrating Euro-Atlantic standards into the professional education system of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It will enhance interoperability with partner countries and open up new opportunities for the development of military education.
“In particular, it enables the development of new educational products and their joint implementation with partner institutions in EU member states,”
said Volodymyr Mirnenko, Director of the Department of Military Education and Science of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.
The following institutions joined the ESDC network:
- Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy
- Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
- Zhytomyr Military Institute named after S. P. Korolyov
- Ivan Kozhedub National Air Force University of Kharkiv
- Military Academy (Odessa)
- Naval Institute of the National University Odesa Maritime Academy
- Military Institute of Armored Forces of NTU KhPI
- Military Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technologies named after the Heroes of Kruty
- Military Law Institute of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University
The ESDC network offers a wide range of educational programs and courses covering key areas such as defence and security, leadership and management, participation in EU missions, cybersecurity, and international cooperation.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine expressed its gratitude to the NGO Borivyter Military School for facilitating communication with the ESDC.
The European Security and Defence College (ESDC) was established in 2005 to provide strategic-level education within the framework of the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy and to foster the development of a European security culture.
The College operates as an autonomous EU body, bringing together civilian and military educational institutions, academies, universities, and other organizations involved in EU security and defence policy.
