In Ukraine, all major thermal and hydroelectric power stations have been damaged due to Russian shelling. Since March 22, there have been five attacks on the energy system: on March 22 and 29, April 11 and 27, and May 8.

This information comes from NPC Ukrenergo.

"All major thermal and hydroelectric power stations are damaged. They can no longer generate as much electricity as before the attacks. Everything else is a consequence. Due to the consequences of the attacks on the energy system, a deficit (shortage) of electricity has emerged and is growing. To compensate for this deficit, energy companies have resorted to importing electricity and emergency assistance from European countries, as well as imposing consumption restrictions on industry," the message states.

The company emphasized that starting from Monday, May 13, electricity consumption has sharply increased due to cooling weather.

"People have turned on heaters and air conditioners for heating. Meanwhile, due to the damage, power plants cannot increase production, and even with maximum imports, there is not enough electricity to meet all consumer needs. To maintain the balance between consumption and production, which is the main condition for the safe operation of the power system, emergency power cuts were introduced, and later hourly power cuts were also implemented for residential consumers," emphasized Ukrenergo.

It is worth reminding that earlier, the Parliament stated that as a result of the recent mass shelling of the energy system, Ukraine lost up to 90% of its thermal generation.
