Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported that more than 491,000 weapons have been registered as lost or stolen since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

According to the ministry, the number of missing weapons nearly doubled in the past year alone — rising from 270,900 in September 2024 to 491,426 in September 2025. The official registry is updated daily, adding new cases and removing those in which weapons are recovered, as reported by Opendatabot.

Types of Missing Weapons
The majority of missing arms are assault rifles, with over 149,000 units unaccounted for. Hunting rifles rank second at more than 135,000. Other categories include carbines, rubber-bullet pistols, and combat pistols.

The most frequently reported missing weapons are:

  • AK-74 assault rifles — more than 99,000 cases
  • Makarov pistols — over 21,000 cases

Overall, rifled weapons make up more than 52% of the total, smoothbore weapons account for 28%, while the remainder consists of traumatic, rubber-bullet, gas, and other types. More than half of the missing stock is foreign-made (58%), while 25% are of unknown origin and 17% are Ukrainian-made.

The ministry emphasized that the overwhelming majority of cases involve loss, not theft. Losses account for 94% of the total, while only 6% are recorded as thefts.
