Last year, Russia suffered over 400,000 killed and wounded, and these numbers are expected to rise in 2026.

This was reported on X by the UK Ministry of Defence.

According to the ministry, Russian personnel losses in the Russia-Ukraine war in 2025 are estimated at around 415,000 (killed and wounded), the second-highest annual figure since the start of the full-scale invasion. This is slightly lower compared to 2024, when Russia lost about 430,000 personnel, the highest yearly toll.

Overall, Russia has likely lost approximately 1,213,000 military personnel since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Analysts, citing data from the Ukrainian General Staff, note that in December 2025, Russia lost on average 1,130 personnel per day—higher than 1,030 per day in November 2025—marking the fourth consecutive month of rising monthly losses.

Comparing daily average losses from August to December 2025, they were among the five lowest monthly averages recorded since April 2024.

“The monthly rate of Russian losses rose again due to intensified offensives along the entire front. Russia is likely to continue experiencing high losses throughout January 2026 because of ongoing infantry attacks on multiple fronts,” the report states.
