Private companies have built around 200 MW of renewable energy capacity in the first half of the year to meet their own needs.

This was stated by Stanislav Ignatiev, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy.

"In just half a year, businesses in Ukraine have built about 200 megawatts of solar power stations—equivalent to one-fifth of the capacity of a nuclear power plant unit. These power stations are primarily for covering their own energy needs," Ignatiev said.

According to him, the generation facilities were mainly built by hotels, retail chains, large shopping centers, office and warehouse premises, among others.

"This indicates a positive trend. The state of war and constant attacks on our energy system have actually stimulated the creation of such projects, especially for businesses," the expert explained.

He also noted that green energy projects are being implemented in the social sector with the help of municipalities.

It was also reported that the debt of the State Enterprise Guaranteed Buyer to investors in renewable energy stations amounts to about 16 billion UAH, caused by underpayments from the company Energoatom. Additionally, Ukrenergo has a further 28.9 billion UAH debt to renewable energy investors due to a deficit in the electricity transmission tariff, which makes it impossible to fully settle payments for the service of increasing the share of electricity from renewable energy sources.

Experts believe that there is an excess of bank liquidity in Ukraine, which should be used to resolve the multi-billion debts of Energoatom in the electricity market. It is noted that resolving this debt crisis in the energy market would promote the construction of green energy generation.
