Russian special services are recruiting saboteurs in Ukraine to carry out operations against Ukrainian forces. However, GRU and FSB operatives are deceiving their own agents.

This was reported by Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC.

According to Kovalenko, GRU and FSB agents promise saboteurs money for attacks against the Ukrainian military. However, they trick the perpetrators, failing to pay them. Moreover, they do not inform the recruits that the explosives they carry may be detonated remotely by their Russian handlers during the mission.

"They are looking for teenagers and poorly informed young people who fall for easy money promised by Russian handlers—often without specifics (just 'go there and deliver a package')," Kovalenko wrote.

He emphasized that recruited saboteurs are simply used and abandoned by the Russians.

"It is important to understand that saboteurs are guaranteed to either die or be imprisoned for a long time in the shortest possible time, losing their future," he stated.
