The delivery of the promised one million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine from European Union countries is once again facing delays. The new plan is to complete the supply by the end of 2024.
This information is reported by the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, on Twitter.
He noted that defense ministers of EU countries have agreed to fulfill their promise regarding the supply of 1 million rounds of ammunition for Ukrainian defenders.
"By the end of March, over 0.5 million rounds will be delivered. Over 1.1 million rounds - by the end of 2024," emphasized Pevkur.
The Minister of Defense clarified that the production capacities of the EU will increase to 1.5 million units of ammunition by the end of 2024.
To recap, back in March 2023, European Union countries agreed to transfer one million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine. Initially, they aimed to complete the supply by the end of 2023, and later the deadline was extended to March 2024.
However, the transfer within the specified timeframe is not happening due to insufficient production capacities.
