The Russian fuel crisis has gradually begun affecting diesel fuel, which previously mainly concerned gasoline.
Economic analyst Stanimir Dobrev noted that since September 9, diesel prices in Russia have already risen by 14%.
A decrease in diesel sales volumes in the overall procurement system has also been noted.
The diesel shortage has so far affected three Russian regions.
Against this background, the Russian government is discussing a ban on diesel exports to other countries and price regulation.
Dobrev notes that such measures will help stabilize the market in the short term; however, a price ceiling will ultimately not help in conditions of a physical fuel shortage.
"As a temporary measure it might calm the market and limit panic buyers but what it is signaling is a possible upcoming ban of the export of diesel fuel. The limit according to experts will not help given the current supply shortage."
