Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Balesta, together with foreign diplomats and representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia, visited the train station in Fastiv, which was destroyed by a Russian strike. The delegation included representatives from the embassies of Germany, France, and Switzerland, as well as the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States — Julie Davis.
On the night of December 5–6, the Russian army carried out another attack on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure — this time in the city of Fastiv, Kyiv region.

As a result of the strike, an important piece of civilian infrastructure was destroyed — the suburban electric train depot. Preliminary estimates suggest that its reconstruction will require about UAH 100 million.
“This was a deliberate strike on civilian infrastructure. Three modernized electric trains were also destroyed — a total of 27 carriages. These were trains providing connections in Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions. The estimated damage amounts to around UAH 300 million,” said Oleksiy Balesta.
Currently, work is ongoing to clear the depot area. The Deputy Minister emphasized that this was the first such massive strike on railway infrastructure in the Kyiv region.
The train station in Fastiv was also damaged and cannot be repaired: the building is currently being dismantled down to its frame (load-bearing structures), so reconstruction is practically starting from scratch. At the same time, temporary modular solutions have been deployed to provide the minimally necessary infrastructure for people traveling to and from Fastiv.
