The country's largest private energy holding, DTEK, owned by Rinat Akhmetov, plans to start the construction of the 650 MW Poltava Wind Farm (WPP) in 2025.

This was reported by the DTEK Renewables press service.

"DTEK Renewables is currently in the process of obtaining all necessary permits and documents to prepare for the construction of the DTEK Poltava WPP. The company has received technical conditions for connecting 650 MW of capacity to Ukraine's energy system.

Having technical conditions is an important prerequisite for designing the substation to collect the power of the future WPP. The planned start of construction is 2025," the statement said.

"Wind energy has many strategic advantages - the speed of construction, the dispersion of turbines, and the highest generation from early autumn to late spring.

That is why it should become the foundation for restoring Ukraine's energy potential in the coming years. Accordingly, we continue to comprehensively prepare for the implementation of the Poltava WPP project with a capacity of 650 MW," said Oleg Solovey, Deputy General Director of DTEK Renewables.

Earlier, it was reported that the cost of constructing the DTEK Poltava WPP is estimated at $976 million. The company plans to attract $638 million in loan financing.

The company added that a second meteorological mast was recently installed in the Globino community for the wind monitoring campaign.

"Together with the first one, they are the largest in Ukraine and have a height of 160 meters. The use of two meteorological masts is necessary for an accurate assessment of key parameters - wind flow directions and wind strength, as the wind farm will be located over a very large area.

Simultaneously, the team is conducting ornithological studies. Experts have already provided the company with an ornithological report for the six-month monitoring period of the spring migration, confirming the correctness of the previous scheme of turbine locations and the absence of impact on bird migration. Ornithologists will now conduct research on the autumn bird migration near the prospective WPP," added DTEK.
