The Finnish Ministry of Defence is launching a new programme to support Ukraine. The Finnish government's first supplementary budget will address the Ministry of Defence's proposal for a new €660 million funding package for Finland's defense industry.
“With this new support programme, Finnish companies and expertise will be elevated to a central role in supporting Ukraine. Until now, we have mainly supported Ukraine through stock transfers, but in the future, we will order significant quantities of products from our domestic companies. These solutions will strengthen both Ukraine's chances for just peace terms and Finnish security sector businesses and logistical resilience for the long term,” said Defence Minister Antti Häkkinen.
The new support program has been under preparation by the Ministry of Defence since last fall. The preparation process involved close collaboration with the business community, international partners, and Ukraine. The procurements will be carried out by the Finnish Defence Forces' Logistics Command. The starting point for material procurements will be Ukraine's critical needs, the suitability of products for transfer, and the production and delivery capabilities of the companies. The products will be delivered to Ukraine as part of future material aid packages.
In the coming weeks, a roundtable discussion will be held under the leadership of the Minister of Defence, where the funding package will be discussed in more detail with companies from the defense industry.
