The Russian Federation has intensified the construction of a bridge over the Tumen (Tumen River) on the border with North Korea. The new bridge will include both road and rail infrastructure, fully replacing the old railway bridge.
On the Russian side of the river, preparatory work is already underway, including tree clearing. Construction on the North Korean side began in November 2023.
The new infrastructure over the Tumen River holds strategic significance. Its primary goal is to ensure the transportation of weapons, military equipment, and North Korean ammunition to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The construction of a permanent bridge indicates long-term plans for military-technical cooperation between Russia and North Korea, as well as the two countries' efforts to bolster their military capabilities.
