Germany will allocate an additional €65 million to support Ukraine, focusing on repairing the country’s energy infrastructure.
According to the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the funds will be provided through the KfW Development Bank and directed to the Energy Support Fund of the Energy Community. This fund, established in 2022, has also received contributions from numerous other international donors.
"Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure continues to be a target of massive Russian airstrikes. A collapse of energy supply during the third winter of the war would have catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian economy and population. Therefore, supporting Ukraine is more important than ever," stated Robert Habeck, Germany’s Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.
Habeck emphasized that this aid represents a significant contribution to maintaining Ukraine’s energy supply.
By the end of 2024, Germany's total contribution to the Energy Support Fund is expected to rise to €360 million.
Ukraine's energy infrastructure continues to be a primary target of attacks by Russian forces.
