The Dutch government is urging municipalities to create additional spaces for receiving Ukrainian refugees. Preliminary estimates suggest that 97,000 places will be needed, as reported by De Telegraaf.
Mayors of cities have promised to create 90,000 places for receiving citizens, with over 81,000 currently available. Voutje Kolf, Chairman of the Security Council, suggested that even more places would be needed to accommodate Ukrainians.
It is expected that by February, there will be a need for 97,000 places to host refugees, according to a letter from State Secretary Eric van der Burg to the mayors of regional municipalities.
Eric van der Burg, Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and Security in the Netherlands, noted that the influx of refugees from Ukraine continues, and it does not appear that the situation will change in the near future. It is estimated that there will be over 104,400 refugees from Ukraine by the end of the year
