The film "20 Days in Mariupol" has entered the shortlist for the Oscars in two categories, Best International Film and Best Documentary, according to director Mstyslav Chernov.
This marks the first time a Ukrainian film has made it to the shortlist in the Best International Film category.
The film depicts the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the bombing of a maternity hospital in Mariupol, and the rescue of the film's author and his colleagues from the Associated Press from the besieged city.
Mstyslav Chernov, along with photographer Evgen Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko, worked on the film "20 Days in Mariupol." They were the last journalists to cover the start of the destruction of Mariupol by Russia, and all three received the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage.
Additionally, the Polish film "In the Rearview" by director Maciek Hamela, which tells the stories of Ukrainians forced to flee from the war, was nominated for Best Documentary.
