A delegation from the Ukrainian World Congress took part in a meeting of the Italian Parliament’s Foreign and EU Affairs Committee, one of the country’s key parliamentary bodies shaping foreign policy, coordinating Italy’s position within the EU, and influencing international security and support matters.

The UWC delegation included Executive Director Roman Zhyla, Head of the Christian Association of Ukrainians in Italy Oles Horodetskyi, Vice President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations Oksana Kolomiiets, and UWC Community Relations Manager Yevheniia Petrova.

During their address, the delegation highlighted several urgent issues, including the fight against Russian propaganda, the prevention of performances in Italy by artists who openly support Russia’s war against Ukraine, and the presence of Russian narratives about Ukraine in Italian school textbooks.

They also raised concerns over the protection of Ukrainian children evacuated to Italy, legal uncertainty for Ukrainians under “special protection” status, and errors in Italy’s registration system, which incorrectly list Ukrainians born before 1991 as being born in Russia.

The delegation further stressed the importance of supporting Ukrainian language and cultural education in diaspora schools and churches, noting it helps preserve identity and encourages return to Ukraine after victory.

“The participation of the UWC delegation in the committee meeting allowed the Ukrainian community’s voice to be heard, drew attention to critical issues, and supported decision-making in favor of Ukraine,” the UWC noted, expressing gratitude to the Italian Chamber of Deputies for the candid dialogue and continued support.
