A Russian drone attacked a vehicle belonging to the IAEA mission on its way to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
This was reported on social media platform X by Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"Today, during the completion of the 26th rotation of the IAEA personnel mission supporting and assisting the Zaporizhzhia NPP, one of the vehicles was attacked by a drone on Ukrainian territory. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and our team is safe. The rotation has been completed. As the IAEA's Director General, I strongly condemn this attack on the IAEA personnel," Grossi said.
He once again called for restraint.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russians could not have been unaware of their actions when they used a drone to attack the IAEA convoy and that their actions were deliberate. Zelenskyy reported that in Zaporizhzhia region—a region where Russia continues to illegally control the nuclear power plant it occupied—Russian FPV drones attacked the IAEA convoy, which is tasked with ensuring global nuclear safety.
"The strike was aimed at one of the vehicles in the convoy. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries. This attack clearly demonstrated how Russia treats international law, international institutions, and global security. The Russians could not have been unaware of their target. They knew exactly what they were doing, and they acted deliberately," the President emphasized.
He stressed that "this attack requires a clear and decisive response from both the IAEA and other international partners." Zelenskyy added, "Silence or inaction will only encourage further crimes."
