The UK government has ordered a significant number of lightweight multipurpose Martlet (LMM) missiles to equip its Armed Forces. Some of these missiles will also be transferred to Ukraine.
According to the British Ministry of Defence’s press office, the £176 million order is intended to equip both existing and future short-range air defense systems of the British Army, such as the Stormer armored vehicles.
The missiles will also be used in the Royal Navy's Martlet naval anti-ship missile system, deployed from Wildcat helicopters.
Each lightweight multipurpose missile (LMM) weighs just 13 kg and provides precise protection against threats such as drones, helicopters, other aircraft, and small, fast maritime targets.
In addition, hundreds of LMM missiles will be transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It has also been revealed that the British Ministry of Defence plans to increase the number of Ukrainian military personnel receiving training on the use of Martlet missiles.
