In recent weeks, Russian forces have been gradually advancing through the ruins of Marinka in the Donetsk region. Currently, Russia likely controls the majority of the built-up area, according to the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom on Twitter.
As stated in the summary, Ukrainian forces still control portions of the territory on the western outskirts of the city. Marinka has been on the front line since 2014, and it was home to 9,000 people before the war. According to British intelligence, it is now completely destroyed, with drone footage showing the majority of buildings turned into ruins.
"Russia’s renewed efforts against Marinka are part of Russia’s autumn offensive which is prioritising extending Russia’s control over the remaining parts of the Donetsk region – highly likely still one of the Kremlin’s core war aims," notes the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.
It is worth noting that on November 30, President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting in Zaporizhzhia to discuss strengthening defenses on all major fronts, with a particular focus on Avdiivka, Marinka, and other directions in Donetsk.
