On the morning of April 17, the Russian forces launched three missile strikes on Chernihiv, with Russians using Iskander missiles. The strike targeted the central district of the city. Over 60 people were affected by the attack, including children who were injured.

There was a direct hit on a building of social infrastructure. The hospital and the central building of Chernihiv Polytechnic were damaged. The number of casualties due to the missile strike on Chernihiv has risen again. 17 people have died, Including 2 individuals who died in the hospital.

This was reported by Andriy Podorvan, an advisor to the chief of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, during a televised marathon.

"The number of fatalities, unfortunately, has risen to 17. Additionally, more than 60 people have sustained injuries of varying degrees, including three children... Several dozen children have been hospitalized in Chernihiv city hospitals, and they are all receiving appropriate care," he said.

Search and rescue operations in Chernihiv are ongoing. According to Podorvan, there are missing persons who have not yet been contacted.

"We have information about missing persons; there are several people who have not yet been contacted and it is known that they were near the area of the strike. There is hope that others will still be found," he added.

The National Police also reported that a 25-year-old police lieutenant, Alina Mykolaets, was killed in the attack.

"She was at home on sick leave when the enemy launched a missile strike on a densely populated residential area of Chernihiv. Inspector of the patrol police response unit of the Chernihiv District Police Department, Alina Mykolaets, had been serving in the police since June 2023," the statement said.
