CinemAid Ukraine Charity Marathon started in Cambridge

On December 15, the international charity film marathon in support of Ukraine, CinemAid Ukraine Charity Film Marathon, started in Cambridge. The first film that was presented to the audience was a dramedy with elements of the black comedy "I Work at the Cemetery" directed by Oleksiy Taranenko. The next shows are scheduled for January 2023.

"I Work at the Cemetery" is the debut full-length film by director Oleksiy Taranenko, based on the book of the same name by Pavel "Pastet" Belyanskyi. Since 2021, the film has been participating in competitive programs of recognized international film festivals and collecting awards.

The plot revolves around Sasha, who is engaged in installing monuments at the cemetery. It is full of cynicism and irony. Even in communication with a lonely older man who ordered a monument for himself and a businesswoman who had just buried her son. Suddenly, his teenage daughter returns to Sasha's life. At the same time, the hero gets involved in a power struggle at the cemetery. In a whirlwind of personal tragedies and criminal encounters, it becomes clear that Sasha has severe psychological trauma due to his past.

20,422 viewers saw the film at the Ukrainian cinema, and the total box office receipts amounted to UAH 2,517,986.7.

The event was organized by the volunteer initiative Cambridge4Ukraine, the Ukrainian Film Association, and FILM.UA Distribution.

Funds collected during the film marathon will be transferred to a special account of the State Cinema to support the film industry of Ukraine.
