The Czech Republic is one of Ukraine’s key partners in agro-food trade, Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval said during an intergovernmental meeting with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

According to State Statistics Service data, Ukraine’s agricultural exports to the Czech Republic in 2024 exceeded $196 million—three times higher than in 2021. Main export products include rapeseed, nuts, sugar, sunflower oil, and confectionery.

At the same time, Ukraine’s imports of agricultural products from the Czech Republic also grew, reaching $114.6 million last year, a 60% increase compared to 2021. Key imports were animal feed, live poultry, eggs, and beer.

In the presence of Prime Ministers Denys Shmyhal (Ukraine) and Petr Fiala (Czech Republic), Minister Koval signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Czech Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný. The agreement opens new opportunities for cooperation in agriculture and food sectors, focusing on:

  • Supporting Ukraine’s integration into the EU agricultural system
  • Aligning Ukrainian agricultural legislation with EU standards
  • Developing livestock, crop farming, and aquaculture
  • Veterinary and phytosanitary control
  • Food safety
  • Exchange in science, education, and innovation
  • Strengthening bilateral agro-trade

Both sides agreed to exchange experience, conduct joint research projects, participate in fairs and exhibitions, and create a working group to coordinate implementation of these initiatives.
