Due to the mobilization announced in Russia, from September 28, the Latvian government introduces a state of emergency in the regions of the country bordering the Pskov region, as well as at airports, border crossing points, seaports and railways. This was reported on the body's website.
âThe number of Russian citizens wishing to leave their country has increased significantly. Thus, there is a risk of a rapid increase in the number of illegal migrants on the Latvian-Russian border as well. The purpose of emergency measures is pre-emptive preparation for it,â the message says.
The state of emergency will operate for three months in Aluksne, Balvi and Ludza regions. In addition, for this time, Latvia will close the Pededze border crossing.
