On June 12, Odessa will host a major classical music event featuring works by renowned French composer Gabriel Fauré. The concert will take place at 19:30 in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (33/1 Yevropeiska Street), offering audiences a rare opportunity to hear sacred music in one of the city’s most acoustically and architecturally striking venues.

The programme includes two of Fauré’s most celebrated compositions: the Requiem, Op. 48, and the Pavane, Op. 50. Unlike traditional funeral masses, Fauré’s Requiem is notable for its serene and contemplative tone, offering a vision of peaceful departure and heavenly grace rather than tragedy and despair. The Pavane, meanwhile, is a graceful orchestral miniature known for its lyrical elegance and subtle melancholy.

The concert will be performed by the National Odesa Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of its long-time conductor, maestro Hobart Earle. Joining the orchestra are two internationally acclaimed soloists: soprano Lyudmyla Monastyrska, praised for her rich tone and emotional depth, and baritone Vitalii Bilyi, known for his powerful timbre and stage presence.

The choral sections will be performed by the choir of the Odesa National A. V. Nezhdanova Academy of Music, directed by Valerii Rehrut and Halyna Shpak, with choirmaster Yurii Kuchurovskyi.

Held in the solemn setting of the cathedral, this performance promises to be both a musical and spiritual experience—an evening where sacred art meets timeless beauty.
