The Ministers of Defense of Ukraine and Germany, Mykhailo Fedorov and Boris Pistorius, discussed Germany’s participation in an innovative project aimed at developing Ukraine’s drone assault units. Fedorov reported this on Telegram.

According to him, Germany is one of Ukraine’s key partners in the field of security and defense. Today, Germany’s contribution accounts for more than 30% of all announced volumes of security assistance to Ukraine for 2026. Fedorov expressed gratitude for the transfer of two Patriot systems in the autumn of 2025 and for Germany’s readiness to allocate additional resources for unmanned systems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Defense Minister also spoke about today’s massive Russian attack.

“Strengthening air defense remains our priority, and Germany’s role in this area is crucial. The IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems provided, as well as participation in the PURL project for the procurement of U.S. weapons, helped repel Russian terror today,” the Ukrainian minister emphasized.

The sides also discussed the further development of Ukraine’s Patriot program and the necessary projects to ensure long-term supplies of missiles for Patriot systems.

At the same time, they focused on the development of the IRIS-T missile as one of the core elements of Ukraine’s armaments and on increasing supplies.

The ministers discussed Germany’s participation in the innovative project to develop drone assault units.

“We already have successful operations on the front line and are ready to share this practical experience with the German military,” Fedorov noted.

Another important area of cooperation is extended-range artillery ammunition. The Ukrainian Defense Minister stressed the importance of supplying long-range artillery rounds to ensure effective artillery operations in conditions of a drone “kill zone.” A key priority for Ukraine is to continue Germany’s contributions to the Czech initiative.

Fedorov thanked Germany for its important, systematic assistance to Ukraine and personally thanked Boris Pistorius for his leadership and consistent efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense.
