As of the morning of Wednesday, January 21, 520,000 customers in Kharkiv region remain without electricity.
This was reported by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, during a briefing.
“Today, we have 520,000 customers without power. Scheduled outages are being applied, and Ukrenergo is constantly implementing emergency shutdowns to stabilize the energy system across the country,” said Synegubov. He clarified that 60,000 customers have been without power since 2022 due to attacks, making restoration impossible in frontline areas. The remaining 460,000 are de-energized specifically because of strikes on energy infrastructure.
According to Synegubov, on January 20, 1.1 million customers in the region were without electricity:
“This is nearly 90% of Kharkiv region, including Kharkiv city.”
He added that the outages are prolonged.
“For the third day in a row, people are facing possible power cuts lasting up to ten hours. We are doing everything possible to stabilize the situation. Energy workers and all services are working around the clock,” Synegubov said.
Hospitals continue to operate and are not subject to scheduled outages, although they may be affected by emergency shutdowns.
In the region and in Kharkiv city, 950 “Point of Invincibility” and over 350 heating centers have been set up, some of which are mobile.
“We are also preparing locations for potential hot meal distribution points. We are preparing for the worst-case scenario,” the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head added.
He noted that nearly all energy facilities in the region have been targeted by Russian attacks.
