In Romania, on the night of January 29, F-16 fighter jets were deployed in response to a Russian drone attack on Ukraine, including near the border with Romania.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Romania.

The monitoring and surveillance systems of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense detected the presence of drones in Ukraine’s airspace on a route approaching the border with Romania.

The Ministry stated that at around 3:20 AM, two F-16 aircraft from the Romanian Air Force, part of the Air Policing Combat Service, took off from the 86th Airbase in Borca to monitor the air situation. Approximately two hours later, the aircraft returned to base.

"At the same time, the National Military Command Center (core) informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the implementation of warning measures for the population in the Kilia Veke area.

As a result, a RO-Alert message was issued at 3:05 AM, and at 4:08 AM, the warning measures in the specified area were lifted," the statement said.

Radar intelligence did not record any intrusion of the observed air targets into Romanian airspace.

"The Ministry of Defense will conduct investigations throughout the day in areas where risks might arise from these situations and continue missions to monitor the airspace. Allied structures are also being informed in real-time about situations caused by these attacks," the Ministry added.

At the same time, the Ministry of National Defense sent a "strong signal of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian objects and infrastructure, which are unjustifiable and seriously contradict international law norms."
