Total fish and other aquatic bioresources catch by Ukrainian fishing enterprises from January to April this year amounted to 18,265 tons.
According to the press service of the State Agency of Ukraine for Melioration, Fisheries, and Food Programmes Development, the largest catch was in the area covered by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). Since the beginning of the year, vessels flying the Ukrainian flag have harvested 16,111 tons of Antarctic krill there.
At the same time, industrial fishermen caught 1,296 tons of aquatic bioresources in Ukraine’s inland water bodies. Specifically:
- 907 tons in the Dnipro reservoirs,
- 222 tons in the lower Dniester River (including lakes and the Turunchuk arm) and the Dniester estuary,
- 92 tons in the Danube River,
- 58 tons in the Dnipro-Bug estuary system,
- 9 tons in the Tiligul estuary,
- 4 tons in the Berezan estuary,
- and 4 tons in other water bodies.
The catch mainly consisted of:
- Silver crucian carp — 581 tons,
- Bream — 292 tons,
- Black Sea herring — 98 tons,
- Roach (Taran) — 82 tons,
- White-eye bream — 65 tons.
However, due to Russia’s military aggression, fishing in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov remains blocked.
Additionally, in certain areas managed by territorial bodies of the State Fisheries Agency, special commercial fish farms (STRH) operate, combining aquaculture and industrial fishing methods. Since the beginning of the year, 518 tons of aquatic bioresources were harvested under the STRH regime. Also, it is estimated that 340 tons of commercial aquaculture products were caught from January to April.
