Air raid alarms in Israel cannot be compared to what Ukrainians endure daily during the full-scale war.
This was stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by Michael Brodsky, the Israeli ambassador to Ukraine.
According to him, during an air raid alert in Israel, people usually stay in shelters for 10-15 minutes and then come out.
“Here, alarms often last for hours,” emphasized the diplomat, comparing the situation with Ukraine.
Brodsky noted that in Israel, although shelling is regular, it tends to be short-lived.
“You can talk about episodes when Israeli territory is shelled either from the Gaza Strip, Iran, the Houthis, or Hezbollah,” he said.
At the same time, he stressed that the situation in Ukraine is fundamentally different.
“In Ukraine, the war has already lasted four years, and unfortunately, there is no end or limit in sight,” the ambassador added.
He pointed out that Ukrainian society is experiencing moral exhaustion and deep fatigue.
“Four years that I have spent in Ukraine — we don’t sleep and constantly hear sirens,” Brodsky said.
Regarding Israel’s support for Ukraine, the diplomat admitted that in 2022-2023, there were some mistakes by Ukrainian officials that affected the level of active support. However, the overall attitude in Israel remains positive.
“Most Israelis still support Ukraine,” Brodsky noted.
At the same time, he said that the war in Ukraine is no longer a main topic in Israeli news because Israel itself has faced many crises over the past year. But if asked today whom Israelis support — Russia or Ukraine — “the vast majority still say they support Ukraine,” the ambassador concluded.
