The Museum of the History of Kyiv, in cooperation with the Ivan Marchuk Museum and Cultural Center of Contemporary Art, presents an exhibition of the brilliant Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk, whose work has long become a cultural symbol of Ukraine on the international stage.
An innovative artist, philosopher of the brush, creator of the unique technique called "pliontanism," People's Artist of Ukraine, and laureate of the Shevchenko Prize. Ivan Marchuk’s art harmoniously combines philosophical depth, technical mastery, and boundless love for his native land.
The exhibition "Ivan Marchuk. Awakening" is based on three authorial cycles — "The Voice of My Soul," "Landscape," and "Blooming," in which the artist, with special reverence and attention to detail, expresses his love for his homeland, memory of Ukrainian traditions, sense of home, and longing for what has been lost. Each of the three cycles will have its own artistic design to immerse visitors even more deeply in the exhibition and allow them to experience a journey through stages of their own spiritual awakening.
The centerpiece of the exhibition will be the painting "Awakening," which Ivan Marchuk created in New York during his emigration — as a personal act of light amid darkness. Today, as Ukraine awakens to new strength, this image takes on particular depth and symbolism.
The works for the exhibition were provided by nine museums of Ukraine and nineteen private collectors. This collaboration has allowed for the display of a large collection of the artist’s well-known works as well as pieces that have never before been shown to the public.
We express our sincere gratitude to the Ivan Marchuk Museum and Cultural Center of Contemporary Art and the Charitable Foundation "Modern Art Foundation" for co-organizing the exhibition, as well as to the exhibition partners — Zoryana Pelekh, founder of Pelekh&Partners, and Andriy Kratyuk — for their comprehensive support, trust, and inspired participation in bringing this landmark artistic project to life.
