According to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, the threat potentially exists, but the words and actions of the enemy are different.

The General Staff stated that the threat of an offensive from Belarus is growing. However, intelligence officials assure that the reality is quite different.

This was stated in an interview with the Ukrainian Pravda by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov.

"I want to remind you that the story of the Belarusian attack on Ukraine has also been appearing in our media since April. About once every month and a half, they say that these terrible legions of Belarusians will attack tomorrow. But the reality is a little different, and I often debunked these myths. Is there a potential threat from Belarus? This is also not a secret for anyone. The Russians are now transferring a certain number of units there. But what they say and what they actually transfer are completely different things," - said Budanov.

To clarify whether the Belarusians would go to Volyn soon, Budanov replied that so far there were no signs of the creation of any format of strike groups. As of now, the Russians have brought about 3,200 people to Belarus.

However, the invaders arrived without heavy equipment. On the contrary, Belarus removes all its equipment from long-term storage bases and sends it to Russia. Physically, Belarusians have nothing to fight with Ukrainian soldiers. They understand it.

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate also considers attempts to re-offensive on Kyiv unlikely.

"As of now, this is not the case. Is it possible to do this theoretically? It is possible. This will require about two or two and a half weeks of the transfer of troops. This does not exist," Budanov said.

  • Since Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine began, Belarus has become a springboard for the Russian army. From there, the attack on the northern regions of Ukraine began, and rocket attacks were launched on Ukrainian cities.
  • Recently, the activity of the enemy on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border has increased. At the same time, British intelligence believes that a new invasion of Ukraine from the territory of Belarus is now unlikely. Russia is unlikely to be able to assemble combat-ready formations in the required numbers since its forces are already deployed in Ukraine.
  • Earlier, journalists analyzed satellite images from the Zyabrovka airfield near the Belarusian Gomel and concluded that active changes have been taking place there over the past month. Russian troops and new equipment arrive there.
