In response to new geopolitical challenges this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania plans to update the surveillance systems at four border checkpoints with Russia.
This was reported by the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT.
As noted, the cost of the project to update the surveillance system at four border checkpoints with Russia amounts to 16 million euros.
According to the Minister of the Interior of the country, Vladislavas Kondratovičius, additional funding will also be sought for military training for border guards.
"It is necessary to modernize all infrastructure at the border crossing points, implement modern technologies, clear the border zone, and also find funding for the purchase of drones and anti-drone systems," he shared.
According to Kondratovičius, in the current geopolitical situation, no day can be wasted.
It is noted that the Lithuanian state border with the Kaliningrad region is guarded by two units of the State Border Guard Service – the Pagėgiai Border Guard Unit and the Coastal Border Guard Unit, which was restored last year.
Lithuania has a 255 km land border with Russia, of which 18 km run along the Curonian Lagoon and 22 km along the Baltic Sea.
