High jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who had previously become a two-time silver medalist in the World Athletics Championships in Doha and Oregon, this time cleared the bar at a height of 2.01 meters and won the 'gold' medal.
Mahuchikh won this gold medal with her lowest score in the World Cup finals – 2.01 metres. In 2019, she jumped to 2.04 metres and won a silver medal, in 2022 – 2.02 metres.
This is the first gold medal of Ukraine at the world championships in athletics in 10 years.
The Ukrainian athlete shared her impressions with journalists about winning a medal in the premier world championship. The athlete also noted that her victory was motivated by Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, who, in a tough match, managed to defeat the British boxer Dubois, who fought fairly strongly but also quite 'dirty.'
"Of course, I went to this championship for the gold medal because it's my third world championship. And also, during the night, Oleksandr Usyk won – I thought, I should win too," Yaroslava recounted
In this World Championship, our athlete faced tough competitors, but she managed to achieve the best result and bring the 'gold' to Ukraine.
Now, we are eagerly awaiting her Olympic gold medal next year in Paris.
