The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has accumulated 1,000 tons of scrap metal, containing precious metals, from destroyed military equipment and designated military units. This scrap includes 100 kg of gold, 1,900 kg of silver, and 25 kg of platinum. The processing of these metals is conducted through specialized private recycling companies.

Colonel Oleg Koval, Head of the Department for Disposal and Utilization of Excess Military Property, stated that in the first seven months of 2024, the Ministry of Defense earned 24.7 million UAH from recycling precious metals. By the end of the year, an additional 18 million UAH is expected to be generated.

The revenue from the sale of precious metals is allocated according to the National Bank of Ukraine's regulations: 80% of gold and platinum revenue, and 50% of silver revenue, is directed to the state budget. The remaining 20% and 50%, respectively, are retained in a special fund within the Ministry of Defense and used to meet the needs of the Armed Forces.
