Representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine met with one of the world's largest satellite imaging companies. This is the only satellite company in the world that provides 24-hour imaging of the entire planet with a resolution of 3-5 meters. We do not disclose the name for security reasons.
One of the goals of the meeting was to discuss mechanisms for restricting satellite imaging of Ukrainian territory in conditions of martial law. The Ministry of Defense also plans to extend the contract with the company to order up-to-date images of Ukraine's territory for defense and security purposes.
"Satellite companies conduct imaging of Ukrainian territory every day. These images can be ordered by the enemy through dummy companies. Therefore, we are grateful to our partners for their willingness to sign a memorandum with us and jointly implement a mechanism to restrict the use of images of our territory. This cooperation should serve as an example for other satellite companies. In wartime, we must minimize the risks of the enemy using images of Ukraine," emphasized Kateryna Chernogorenko, Deputy Minister of Defense.
According to her, the Ministry of Defense is already working on international legal mechanisms to counter the use of space reconnaissance in the war against Ukraine.
